SEVEN MISTAKES PATIENTS MAKE

1. I can’t do anything to change my pain.

Pain medication, injections, and even surgery all have their time and place to help the body heal. Relying on these alone may get results for a time but patients who take an interest in helping themselves get well and stay well

2. Laying in bed will heal an injury.

Recent research demonstrates the importance of continuing to move using the muscles in order to avoid muscle degeneration. Laying in bed does not speed the healing process and contributes to muscles weakening. Now a patient must get better from the original injury and strengthen weakened muscles because of lack of use

3. Car accident victims refuse to go to a hospital.

People injured with adrenaline flowing through their veins have been known to lift cars in order to save a loved one. It very often isn’t until afterward that people find they cannot move and things have been torn. Don’t wait. Have a doctor at the hospital examine you to determine you are safe to resume normal life. It is impossible for someone in an accident to judge for themselves

4. Forget that Arthritis results from bad posture.

Improper alignment won’t always cause instant pain but over time it takes its toll. Driving with one of the four tires not properly balanced does not always mean you will get a flat tire but wait long enough and that is sure to happen. We don’t just wake up with arthritis one morning. Constant grinding on the bone eventually creates pain.

5. Consider surgery the primary option without looking into less invasive alternatives.

Any surgeon will tell you that once they have started to cut there is no going back. What’s done is done. Consult with several different surgeons to get a consensus that surgery is the best choice to get rid of the pain.

6. Don’t know medications and side effects

Ask your pharmacist for information about each and every medication you are taking and the side effects. Medication taken for pain relief over an extended period of time begin to have profound effects on overall health. Know how these medications effect the entire system.

7. Take health for granted

Have you ever heard the story of the millionaire who was bedridden due to pain. All his money did not make a difference in the things he did or the places he went because all he could do was lay in bed. All the riches in the world cannot be enjoyed if you spend the day in bed because of pain. Decisions you make today have a direct effect on your health in the future.
